The Community Development branch works with Saskatoon's community associations to coordinate neighbourhood activities and programs throughout the city.
Community associations are non-profit organizations, which recruit and train volunteers, plan and administer recreation programs at minimal cost to residents in the fall and winter, and work to enhance the quality of life of the people within the neighbourhood.
An association may operate an outdoor rink in winter, assist with public meetings on neighbourhood development, or organize a community cleanup and barbecue in spring. Whatever the activity, the goal is to encourage residents to get involved and build a sense of "community".

Community Legal Assistance Services for Saskatoon Inner City (CLASSIC)
The purpose of CLASSIC is to provide legal assistance, information and support to low-income, historically disadvantaged Saskatoon residents (with particular attention to the needs of Aboriginal persons) through a clinic that meets the needs of the community. CLASSIC provides law students with clinical experience, new insights into the social reality of law and fosters ethics of social justice and cultural understanding. By focusing on areas of law not covered by Legal Aid, ClASSIC provides a unique and much needed service to low-income members of our community who have traditionally not experienced meaningful access to justice.
Through CLASSIC's Walk In Advocacy Clinic, law student advocates provide direct legal services to low-income clients under the supervision of a lawyer. Law student advocates advise and represent clients with legal matters that significantly impact their lives, such as landlord-tenant, income support and Indian Residential School matters. Under the direct supervision of a staff lawyer, students provide services ranging from legal advice to full representation at hearings and trials.
Through CLASSIC's Legal Advice Clinic, low-income indidvduals meet one-on-one with a volunteer lawyer for a consultation. Lawyer volunteers advise clients in the areas of criminal, civil and family law.
CLASSIC is award-winning, having received recognition locally and nationally, such as the 2008 Canadian National Pro Bono Program Award.

Saskatchewan Alternative Initiatives
The Saskatchewan Alternative Initiatives began to meet in early 1995 to look at the needs of people with intellectual disabilites whose barriers and challenges were excluding them from utilizing existing service provision.
Each individual's personal goas, beliefs and life rituals are considered when developing personalized support. Gentle Teaching is the principle philosophy adopted which embodies core values as wholeness of life, equality, justice and quality of service with integrity.

Saskatchewan Cerebral Palsy Association
In April of 1985 a small group of concrned parents met, all equally frustrated by the lack of services available for their children. The immediate concern was the lack of therapy, as case loads at the Children's Rehabilitation Centre were extremely high. They felt their children deserved a higher standard of treatment, so that they might achieve their fullest potential. They defined their immediate goals as they need for input into decisions that would effect their children's future. It was at this meeting, that the Saskatoon, Cerebral Palsy Association was formed, and defined their overall objective in a mission statement:
"To ensure individuals with cerebral palsy the right to appropriate opportunities to achieve their fullest potential through education, health, care and access to all amenities of the community."
From this small core group the Association organized and expanded, and today has a growing membership of families and individuals including parents, adults with CP, therapists, mediacal professionals, teachers and interested persons. For the first few years the Association's business and affairs were handled by private members in their homes. Fundraising was extremely difficult and members worked very hard at bake sales and raffles. In 1986 the Association held their fist workshop/seminar which was huge success, and further realized the needs of person with cerebral palsy and their families. In 1987 they changed their name to The Saskatchewan Cerebral Palsy Association. In the same year they joined and became a member of the Canadian Cerebral Palsy Association. In 1989 an office was opened in Saskatoon which was run by volunteers. It was extremely difficult to keep up the pace, and a full time Provincial Coordinatior, Heather Ramussen, was hired to the fall of 1989.
Since then the SCPA has hosted other successful workshops, in Saskatoon and Regina; and several programs have been initiated.

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan
We are a non-profit registered charity incorporated in 1985, governed by a Board of Directors elected by our membership. Our vision is to make the experience of Shakespeare enriching and accessible to all, and our mission is to mount professional productions of plays by William Shakespeare and other related works, and to celebrate the skills and talents of Saskatchewan artists.
Our tents on the riverbank in the heart of Saskatoon have been a sure sign of summer's arrival for many years. During July and August, two full-length plays are performed in repertory by professional artists, as well as companion activities such as medieval feasts, workshops, tours, art displays, the Community Stage and Sir Toby's Tavern and Riverside Deck.
Volunteers are needed primarily during the summer season for landscaping, front of house, medieval feasts and publicity. Off season there are a few opportunities through the administration office for general office assistance and fundraising.

St. John Bosco Camp
St. John Bosco Wilderness Camp operates primarily as a summer camp for youth ages 8 - 17. The focus at camp is having fun, learning and living in the outdoors. Our core experience is the out-trip, where campers have the opportunity to experience rustic wilderness travel and camping. Through these experiences campers make lifelong friends and develop a new appreciation for God and nature. The camp is an invitation to people to live, learn, and share with each other in the natural environment that God has provided us with, and to develop a greater awareness and responsibility towards it. Within a Christian framework, campers are encouraged to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually, realising God in all aspects of life.
