Why Volunteer Together as a FAMILY?
In our fast-paced society it is not always easy to spend quality time together as a family.
When families volunteer together they are able to spend uninterrupted time together and they also have the privilege of making a difference in other people’s lives.
Families volunteer because:
- Family ties are strengthened.
- Allows family time and makes family time valuable.
- Communication in families is strengthened.
- Families can work together to reach a common goal
- Families can learn to appreciate cultural and social differences
- New values such as kindness, teamwork, and respect are learned.
- Family members can learn new skills and increase confidence.
- Families can make a real difference in the lives of others.
Families should consider:
- Who is going to volunteer? (Immediate family members, extended family members, friends, etc.)
- How often and when can members make time to volunteer as a family?
- What type of volunteering does the family want to participate in?
Once you have picked a volunteer opportunity:
- Is the voluntary opportunity safe for all family members (ex. For younger children)
- Does your family agree with the mission or mandate of the organization?
- Who is going to be the contact person for the family?
